Shopify orders into Click & Drop and tracking numbers back into Shopify — without copying them by hand

For small UK Shopify shops that post with Royal Mail Click & Drop, on a business account or sending abroad: new orders go across to Click & Drop, and once the labels are printed the tracking number lands on each Shopify order so the customer gets the dispatch email with it.

Example (fictional data)

A one-person candle shop on Shopify posts about forty parcels a week with Royal Mail, a few of them to Ireland and Germany. Each morning the new orders are already in Click & Drop; the owner prints the labels, and by lunchtime every order in Shopify shows its tracking number and the customers have their dispatch emails. One order paid late on Friday is listed as not yet sent across.

How it works

Many small Shopify shops in the UK post their parcels with Royal Mail through Click & Drop, especially when they have a business account or send orders abroad. Every day the same two steps repeat: new orders have to get from Shopify into Click & Drop, and after the labels are printed the tracking numbers have to get back to Shopify.

The second step is the one customers notice. If the tracking number does not reach the Shopify order, Shopify cannot send the dispatch email with it, and the customer writes in to ask where the parcel is. In the Shopify community, sellers have described exactly this gap between Click & Drop and their store.

Doing it by hand means copying names and addresses one way and tracking numbers the other way, order by order. With a handful of parcels a day it takes a few minutes; on a busy week, or with a sale running, it takes much longer and mistakes creep in.

The service connects your Shopify store and your Click & Drop account and does both steps. New paid orders are sent to Click & Drop with the customer's address, the items and the weight you set for each product, so they are ready when you sit down to print labels.

When the labels are printed and the orders are dispatched in Click & Drop, the tracking number is written back to each Shopify order and the order is marked as fulfilled. Shopify then sends its usual dispatch email with the tracking link, and the customer knows where the parcel is.

Orders that are not picked up straight away are not lost. An order paid late, an order on hold or an order older than a few days still appears in a short list of orders that have not gone across, and you can send it with one click.

The same list shows orders that are in Click & Drop but have no tracking number in Shopify yet. At the end of the day you can see at a glance that every parcel sent today has its tracking on the order.

International orders go across with the details Click & Drop needs for customs, taken from the product settings in your store. You set them once per product, not once per parcel.

If you sell from more than one location, each order keeps the location it was placed from, so parcels from different places do not get mixed up.

The service is meant for small UK Shopify shops that post with Royal Mail Click & Drop and want orders and tracking to move between the two without copying. It is in preparation: we are checking whether shop owners need it before it is built.

The service moves order and tracking data between your accounts; it does not buy postage or print labels, and the delivery of every parcel remains with Royal Mail.
